Welcome to Reading With Robin!

1554629_10152498492861849_6472825367297553133_nWhat started out 14 years ago as a way to share my favorite books and authors with my radio audience has become an enthusiastic and engaged reading community both on and off air. Stop by often as there will be lots going on from exclusive author interviews and galley giveaways to book club contests and author events. If you are a book lover you don’t want to miss out on any of the fun happening right here. Like a great book, please share this site with your friends.

What are you reading?

Robin Kall has always been an avid reader. Whether it was getting copies of Judy Blume novels from Mrs. DeWeese as a child growing up on Long Island, or devouring the likes of  Tom Perrotta and Courtney Sullivan as an adult, Robin is never without a book, just ask her kids. Mom always said, “Never leave home without a book!” Some other fun facts that you may not know about Robin is that she wears sandals without socks in the winter, can recite nearly every line of Legally Blonde from start to finish, loves her dog (okay, that one was just a joke), could eavesdrop in Siberia, and is affectionately referred to as “Doctor” by her kids.

In 2000 Robin became a caller to a local talk-radio program and in 2002 segued to being an on-air personality. What most people don’t know about Robin is that she worked as a Saturday morning producer for approximately nine months. Armed with her Dunkin’ coffee, Robin would fiercely arrive at five to call in for the day’s forecast, can you believe that? Over the past thirteen years Robin has become a nationally influential member of the literary community. Throughout the years Robin has hosted/chaired  numerous events and fundraisers, some of which include: Lee Woodruff, Ann Hood, Wendy Mogul, Camille Noe Pagan, Jennifer Weiner, Jodi Picoult, David Baldacci, Khaled Hosseni, Sara Gruen, Randy Susan Meyers, Camilla Gibb, Susan Jane Gilman, Claire Cook, Sue Monk Kidd, and Alice Hoffman, Chris Bohjalian, Elizabeth Berg,Tom Perrotta, Jenna Blum, Sarah McCoy  Jane Green and a 900 person “over-sold-out” event with Adriana Trigiani.

Also known as a “book pusher,” “fairy book mother,” and “all around nice person” Robin has blended her platform with passion to become one of Rhode Island’s most prominent and outspoken personalities in the fight against breast cancer. After the passing of her mother, Carol, in 1997 it became Robin’s mission to both educate women on the importance of early detection and advocate for them as well. 2003 brought the first chapter of “Walking With Robin” and every year dozens of family members, friends, and listeners alike take part in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Rhode Island. In 2009 Robin and her sisters, Laura and Jennifer, established the Love, Carol Foundation to honor their mother’s memory and invest in types of projects that were important to her.

After 10 years of hosting the widely celebrated and beloved talk show Reading With Robin, the show that had listeners nationwide waking up at 7 am regardless of the season, Robin took a brief break from radio while remaining active in the literary community. Robin’s continuous involvements include Reading Across Rhode Island, Book Expo America, sold-out author events and Reading With Robin author podcasts that can be found on iTunes.

In the summer of 2014 Robin interviewed NYTimes Bestselling author, Janet Evanovich on stage at Foxwoods. When the Grand Central sisters came into NYC for their book launch, Robin introduced them and fielded questions at both Posman’s Bookstore at Grand Central Station and  at Book Revue on Long Island. In June of 2015 Robin was invited to host an author panel in New York City at Bryant Park’s Reading Room series. Authors: Lisa Genova, Charles Dubow, Matthew Thomas and Mary-Beth Hughes talked with Robin about their novels as they related to family dynamics. Robin will be back to host at Bryant Park on August 3rd 2016 with authors: Anna Solomon, Eli Gottlieb, Radha Vassal and Kaitlyn Greenidge. An Evening With Authors, Robin’s annual lit event to raise money and awareness for breast cancer concerns this past October was a huge success. The line-up with authors: Christina Baker Kline, Marisa de los Santos and Ted Thompson blew away the crowd! They are still laughing. October also brought a sell-out “Hood on the Hill”  celebration for Ann Hood’s An Italian Wife. A very special afternoon Tea with Jane Green kicked off the 2015 RI literary season and the sold-out Summer With Robin  events held at the Dunes Club in Narragansett, Rhode Island are not-to-be-missed and the start to the summer reading season. Authors for the summer series include: Elin Hilderbrand, Curtis Sittenfeld, Emma Straub, Jen Lancaster, Jane Green, Beatriz Williams and Emily Liebert.   Events are always being added so please check back for updates and join the newsletter list so you won’t miss a single happening.

The latest in Robin’s literary pursuits is the brand new monthly reading series- Point Street Reading Series. Held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Point Street Dueling Pianos in Providence, Rhode Island it is quickly becoming “the” place to be. Some of the authors who have read since this series began in March ’16 are: Caroline Leavitt, Camille Perri, Christopher Boucher, Mike Harvkey, Rachel Cantor, Miranda Beverly-Whittemore, Meg Mitchell Moore, Stephen Kiernan and Thomas Christopher Greene.

You can also follow Robin on Twitter @robinkall, on Instagram @readingwithrobin and “like” Reading With Robin  and Point Street Reading Series on Facebook for all updates! Be sure to stay tuned because you won’t want to miss what Robin has planned!

Not sure I’m writing in the right place, but my book club right now consists of just my mother and I. I hope that’s good enough to enter to win Sara Gruen’s new one.

Hi! What a fun site! I’m liking you on Facebook. I discovered your At the Water’s Edge book club giveaway from the Water for Elephants Facebook page. So, in hopes of winning copies for my book club, we are a group of 9 neighbors/friends who formed about 2 years ago when a previous book club fell apart when the leader moved away. We wanted to form a smaller, cozier group so that we could go out to restaurants to discuss the books instead of going through the trouble of preparing food and cleaning houses. We’re lazy! (Although, tonight we are getting together at a house to celebrate the holidays with a gift exchange in addition to our discussion of The Red Tent). We meet every 6 weeks or so. Our favorite books recently have been Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline, The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty, and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.

Hi Amy! So nice to meet you and thanks for telling me about your book club! I’m with you going out so nobody has to stress. Not lazy..smart! So many groups are having fabulous holiday editions of their clubs and The Red Tent was one of my favorite books of all time! (did you watch the mini-series?)Glad you are enjoying my site -we enjoy the same sorts of books. I will enter your club and good luck! Robin

hi, found you thru one of your fans. wondering if you have ever considered a grown-up coloring book as something to talk about on the radio? i have one coming out thru random house ( called color me cluttered) and it amuses me to think about a coloring book on the air, so to speak. just wondering- keep up the good work.

  14. Bonnie Cameron says:

My friend tried to purchase a ticket to your event at the Dunes Club, in Narragansett, on June 22, 2016 but was told that the sale ended. Last year, when I missed the sale, I was put on a wait list and was lucky enough to get a ticket! I see that there is no link to a wait list this year and I wonder how my friend might get on a wait list and, hopefully, get a ticket. Thank you. Bonnie Cameron.

    • robinkall says:

Hi Bonnie – i’m guessing your friend has an old link…there are still general tickets for June 22nd. I will email you the link directly. glad you got in touch. i’d hate anyone to miss out! Thanks!! Robin
